Teaching Math with Google Apps
Alice Keeler wrote the book on Teaching Math with Google Apps (literally!). Teaching math in the 21st century is different, it asks students to be critical thinkers, model their math, critique the reasoning of others, and to analyze. Many of the math problems we have traditionally been using have literally become obsolete as a result of modern technology. This is a gift! This session is an introduction to ways we can use Google Apps to make this shift.

Edpuzzle - Change the Way You Use Videos!
In this session we will show you how to use the free program EDPuzzle. You will learn how to create lessons with videos that include embedded questions to increase student engagement and allow you to quickly and effectively check for understanding. This simple and easy to navigate website will turn your ordinary videos into complete lessons by adding valuable features like audio and text commentary, and multiple choice and short answer questions. The program also makes it possible to crop videos, as well as replace audio tracks. Your students will no longer stare off in to space as the video plays in front of them, because with EDPuzzle the video will pause and require students to be engaged and utilize the information presented in the video. You as the teacher will be able to add important information to any video you can find, and get immediate feedback on your students understanding of the information presented. The best part is you can still use the videos you already use now, and there is a huge database of already prepared video lessons for you to choose from. With EDPuzzle finding, creating, editing, assigning, and grading video lessons is so simple and easy you will be using it every day!

Student Powered Showcase
Since 2003, the Student Technology Showcase has been a much anticipated part of CUE’s national conference in Palm Springs. The Showcase was originally sponsored by the California Department of Education and supported by California Technology Assistance Project (CTAP) and featured student technology-integrated projects that aligned with California state standards.

With the introduction of the Common Core State Standards and the focus on STEAM and the Maker Movement, CUE aligned the 2016 Showcase to reflect how students are learning by doing. The CUE Student-Powered Showcase (SPS) will invite conference attendees to participate actively with students in creating, problem solving, and learning. Attendees might collaborate with students on a robotics or 3D-printing project, or they might get down on the floor to figure out how a Sphero works. The SPS will be guided by a Task Force of innovative CUE members and is produced in partnership with the Orange County Department of Education.
